Most FM stations use this to provide song titles, traffic information or other messages.
The BST-1 uses this capability to display tuned shortwave frequency and other information such as signal level and function selections.
If you are not sure if your radio supports RDS, just tune to various strong FM stations in your area. Look for display of song titles or station information. Not all stations broadcast with RDS so check more than one.
